Pitting mech against mech and father against son, the epic showdown will test this fierce but undisciplined team of modern-day ninjas, who must learn to check their egos and pull together to unleash their inner power. He carries a staff he can play like a flute, and a hat that doubles as a flotation device.
Impatient, impulsive and completely self-absorbed, he likes to make a point by firing his generals….from a volcano. Outgoing and enthusiastic, he is often ready with a hug. Freon literally cools his fuel cells and he shoots down his opponents with an icy blast. Cole’s mech has built-in turntables and a powerful sub-woofer, creating waves of intense sound to seriously rock his opponents and blast their mechs into pieces, not to mention shatter the windows of nearby cars and buildings. This ninja is a real live wire who zaps his opponents with lightning bolts. Every time he works up the nerve to tell her how he feels, he gets interrupted. All the characters they love and action is fast paced. However, the two bond througth their journey, while the ninja learn to not to rely solely on their mechs to fight. Lloyd realizes that “inner peace” (piece) means for them to unleash their power within, and they successfully do this, using their elemental powers and escaping from the collapsing temple. However, that target audience will still connect to the frenetic battle scenes, sophomoric humor (butt jokes, anyone?) and engaging characters.

What it amounts to is a frantic, mildly funny, mildly irritating mix of hectic action and the most generic plot of inner peace ever to formulate on the big screen. What was fresh, now begins to feel formulaic despite the series insistence that it is anything but. The filmmakers want to achieve an emotional payoff, but it deeply contradicts the tone of the rest of the film and just comes off phony. The film isn’t bad though, it features the cutest monster to grace the screen in a while and it is played to some comedic effect. But low and behold that movie turned out to be something special and did very well. This line was simply spruced up with lots of new modern elements to appeal to modern kids. A group of young crime fighters fighting evil with fantasy elements. Garmadon being a sort of supernatural samurai warrior type bloke. But this really turned me off, having an actual live action cat be the deadly force that is destroying the city.
I think the main issue with this movie is originality and lack of it.
I know its deliberate but that’s not really an excuse because even that angle has been done to death.
I admit to liking the little swipes at popular pop culture, the little parodies of other movies, the odd bit of crude toilet humour, and simply mocking genres. The team attempting to hide in the bamboo forest was a nice little giggle. But there does come a point where you feel, like everything else, you’ve seen and heard it all before. There is only so much you can do before it just becomes mundane. And this is the real problem with many movies these days. These movies are now fast becoming a highlight reel of mini parody sketches, and nothing much else. There’s nothing new in this, time to move on. This theme does provide some effective dramatic moments, but it is subject to diminishing returns and the formula feels a bit stale this time around. By night, they’re gifted warriors, using their skills and awesome fleet of vehicles to fight villains and monsters. By day, they’re ordinary teens struggling against their greatest enemy: high school. Although some sections of the movie were definitely a bit dry, the fight sequences and voice talent surely made up for it.
I do feel however that the other ninjas should have been given more of a story and much more character development.
